Penang Junior Open - Day 1
total disappointment for me.. i was ranked 33/64 at the start of this tournament.. i wasn't happy at all with the ranking given to me.. a player, whom i have kept a 100% record against in ALL EVENTS can be ranked higher than myself.. UNBELIEVABLE!! so i was scheduled to play against the number 32 player.. i actually fancied my chances to advance to the round of 32.. my opponent's was Len Wai Kit.. he's from Selangor.. i took the first set 9-7.. i made many mistakes with my drop shot throughout the match.. maybe it was because it was a morning match and i didn't get enough warm up.. well, i then lost the 2nd, 3rd and 4th set by the same score, 1-9.. the main problem was my back.. i started to feel sore after the 2nd set.. and after that the pain went to my shoulders, therefore preventing me from making any over-head volleys.. i couldn't even hit hard.. fitness wise, i was better.. i didn't get tired like i always did.. but thanks to my sore-back, the game went entirely my opponent's way.. the referee was also an important part in my match.. the decisions he made was, well, let's just say that he isn't exactly a referee anyone would want in their match (i'm sure you'd agree with me Yassin)..
so, i wont be achieving my target of reaching the top 20 this year.. but, regardless of my disappointment, i'm determined to make this tournament a fun experience.. since my target is already out of reach, the least i can do now is to maintain my 33rd placing..
after the morning session, Max, Darren, and i followed Raffie to his house.. Darren took a nap while Max, Raffie and i watched Dead or Alive (D.O.A.).. after that, we went to the Batu Lancang Market to have lunch.. i'm not going to go further into the subject of our lunch..
we walked back to the squash centre and guess what? Darren's match was given to his opponent.. according to the tournament rules, a player must be present at the respective court in which his or her match will take place the latest 15 minutes after the time stated.. and we arrived 10 minutes after the match was called and we were told that it was already given to his opponent.. i cant help but feel sorry for Darren.. so i went home at around 4pm..
when i arrived home i just dropped my bags, and put on my running shoes and went straight back out for a run.. i did okay considering the fact that i'm now wearing a pair of running shoes that is twice the weight of my old pair of running shoes.. i guess that's all i have for now.. sorry i do not have any pictures.. till next time.. Au revoir..
Ivan, out...
